aftercare

Our Recommendations for Aftercare of Your Tattoo

  1. If you received a Recovery Derm bandage (matte texture): Leave Bandage on for up to 5 days. Blood and plasma will  form  underneath which is normal. Remove slowly and wash with warm water and antibacterial hand soap. Do not rebandage unless you choose to heal with Recovery, then you may wash, pat dry, and apply a second piece that may stay on up to 5 days.
    • If you received a Tegaderm bandage (shiny texture): After 12-24 hours, gently remove your Tegaderm and wash your tattoo with warm water and mild antibacterial hand-soap. Do not rebandage unless you choose to heal with Tegaderm, then you may wash, pat dry, and apply a second piece that may stay on up to 4 days.
  2. Wash with antibacterial liquid hand soap, then apply a thin film of Aquaphor 3 times a day for the next 3 days. After 3 days, you may switch to an unscented hand lotion, like Palmer’s cocoa butter or Lubriderm, and use until skin returns to its pre-tattoo condition.
  3. Stay out of sunlight and tanning booths until your tattoo is healed – at least 7-10 days.
  4. Do not soak your tattoo in the tub, sauna, jacuzzi, or go swimming while your new tattoo is healing. Showers are fine with or without the second skin bandage.
  5. Do not rub, pick, or itch the treated area while it is healing. Loss of color and/or infection could occur.
  6. Extreme sun and exposure over the years can and will fade your tattoo. This can be minimized by using a strong sunscreen, at least SPF25.
  7. Your tattoo should be healed in two weeks. Consult a physician if any of the following signs or symptoms develop: redness at the site, green/yellow discharge (foul smelling), and/or fever.
