PRACTICAL TIPS FOR BUILDING SAFETY & SOLIDARITY
- DO NOT TALK TO ICE OR THE POLICE.
- Stay silent. You are under no obligation to answer their questions or cooperate with their investigations.
- Do not provide any information. Anything you say can and will be used against our neighbors. If they stop you on the street, excuse yourself and keep it moving.
- Send them away. If ICE or police come to your door, do not let them in without a warrant (signed by a judge with your name and address) Ask them to leave.
- OFFER RIDES AND CARPOOL.
- Transportation is safety. Organize a rideshare network.
Create a local list of trusted community members who can offer safe rides to work, errands, or school.
- Be a lookout. If you see ICE activity near public transit, schools, or neighborhoods, alert your community immediately, with as many specific details as possible.
- SAFE ZONES AND MUTUAL AID.
- Create safe zones. Designate homes, businesses, and community spaces where immigrants can shelter if ICE or police are nearby.
- Support legal defense. Fundraise for immigration lawyers or local bail funds.
- Spread awareness. Teach others in your network to recognize ICE tactics and how to resist them.
Our collective safety depends on dismantling harmful systems and building networks of care and trust. Protecting our immigrant neighbors is everyone’s responsibility. By refusing to collaborate with ICE/police, offering rides, and organizing mutual aid, we resist systems of violence and create a community where everyone belongs. WE KEEP US SAFE!
